Invitation for a Virtual Conference on Telecentres

Dear list members,
On behalf of the International Institute for Communication and Develop-
ment (IICD) I would like to invite you to our virtual conference on
Telecentres. This conference will start on Tuesday September 21. It is
our goal to explore the power of several Telecentre concepts in devel-
oping countries. This is the chance to exchange expertise, learn from
experts and get feedback on your work in this area!
IICD aims to assist developing countries to keep up with the latest
trends in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). On the one
hand we do that by maintaining a website:

which features, amongst others, a Service Desk where people from devel-
oping countries can ask questions about ICTs and development. On the
other hand we hold National ICT Roundtable Conferences in developing
countries, during which the participants (all local) set ICT priorities
and develop project ideas. IICD then continues to assist during project
formulation, the search for partners, financial resources and project
implementation.
At our service desk we receive many practical questions from people
from developing countries about Telecentres. Questions about infra-
structure, technique, type of services which should and can be offered,
which tariffs should be charged, regulation etc... Apparently there is
a great need for more information about practical issues related to
Telecentres. We hope that this list can and will contribute to answer-
ing these types of questions.
