We are pleased to announce the next offering of the E-Learning Course
Health and Human Rights - Dimensions and Strategies: November 19, 2007 - March 2, 2008.
For many years, human rights remained largely the concern of specialist lawyers. In recent years, however, there is increased recognition in the public health community that human rights provide a useful framework and guide for action aimed at ensuring the conditions in which people can be healthy. There is also increased understanding, within the human rights community, how public health contributes to the realization of the right to health and other health-related human rights.
This online training intends to generate increased clarity and understanding about the important synergy between health and human rights.
It is developed with a broad target audience in mind comprising public health and human rights practitioners, WHO staff and other UN agencies, government officials and NGOs, etc.
We specifically invite participants from Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda and Tanzanian.
The course follows an e-learning approach with 3 modules which are to be completed consecutively. After a two week introduction phase into the e-learning tools from November 19 on, the course will start from 3 December 2007. Each module will require approx. 5-7 hours working time in total.
The course has been developed within the WHO Health and Human Rights initiative and set up as e-learning in cooperation with InWEnt Capacity Building International, Germany.
We would kindly request your help in forwarding this announcement (including attached documents) to potential participants in your partner institutions and collaborating agencies.
Application deadline is October 29, 2007.
In case of further questions please do not hesitate to contact us. Course announcement and registration form available from InWent address above.
As for the e-Learning concept or virtual faculty, the participants are guided through the course by a course tutor who helps them with general instructions, moderates the chat sessions and answers individual questions, e.g. in case of technical problems. Furthermore there is a Human Rights expert who answers special questions regarding the content during joint chat sessions or also individually, provides the participants with additional material, corrects the assignments, etc.
Additionally there are our partners from the WHO Health and Human Rights initiative who originally developed the course content as a face to face seminar.
