Maternal Deaths Disproportionately High in Developing Countries (4)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Odutola,
On alight hearted note, I knew you would pick on the semantics
and create quite a provocative piece: good for discussion though
and I took it with a lot humour and tongue in chick!
When I said this was not my specialty I meant maternal deaths
etc. since I am a practising community pediatrician but not ob-
stetrician. Of course I am using my old colonial master's lan-
guage, computer and website supported by London and Washington I
presume either directly or indirectly!
The point is that we are part of a wider world and have been co-
opted into western ways! But to engage in semantics would be to
lose the point. Maternal mortality has reached an acceptable lev-
els in our countries and something needs to be done about it. So-
lutions have to be home-grown but assistance from the much bashed
western world would be welcome; however unpopular or unsexy! At
least here. Recently a wise man in my village told me: When you
speak and nobody complains you should know that you have said
nothing!
Over to you then.
