MRC report says boiling breast milk prevents HIV transmission (4)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
In situations of desperation, like that which exists in southern and
eastern Africa, we need to be careful with the haste in which we put
down valuable research results because of some apparent financial
constrains. Boiling breast milk is obviously not the ideal solution,
however, in cases where treatment options are not available, the
woman is obviously infected, it sure does make sense. With the cur-
rent resistance of the pharmaceutical industry to price reduction and
the intransigence of governments that can afford it to provide pre-
vention options available to unborn children, any small instrument in
addition to all others should indeed be welcome.
