[afro-nets] Performance Metrics in Malaria

Dear Colleagues

Next year there will be upwards of $1 billion disbursed under the broad heading of "malaria" ... and from all I can find out there is little or no accounting and accountability for these resources and the results that should be coming from the use of these resources.

I am a former corporate cost accounting and CFO ... a former consultant in the relief and development sector ... and absolutely disgusted that so much money is flowing and there are virtually no financial controls in place and it is almost impossible to get any verifiable information about what results are being achieved.

Scientists may be good at research and all the other malaria experts may be doing interesting things ... but as a group they don't get high marks in my books for their accounting and performance analysis. Why are the journals not full of reports about the wonderful results being accomplished ... malaria down? malaria parasite prevalence down in the human host? malaria parasite prevalence down in the mosquito population? costs? results?

Is anyone doing this? Where are the data?
