Publication of Global Health Watch 2005-2006
--------------------------------------------

The Hesperian Foundation is pleased to announce the American
publication of Global Health Watch 2005-2006... Published in
England by Zed Press, Hesperian is serving as the US distribu-
tor. Global Health Watch 2005-2006: An Alternative World Health
Report offers a comprehensive survey of the key areas that in-
fluence the health of poor and vulnerable groups in all coun-
tries, including climate change, water, nutrition, national
health policies, and the brain drain of health professionals
from South to North.

Sarah Shannon, Hesperian's Executive Director, introduces the
concept and strategies of the Global Health Watch program.
Global Health Watch documents the widening health inequalities
within and between countries, and challenges the major global
bodies that influence health, including the World Bank, World
Health Organization, and UNICEF. "The real scandal, it argues,
is that the world lacks neither funds nor expertise to solve
most of our health problems. Rather, it lacks the moral commit-
ment and political will to do so." [my quotes]

Thanks Sandy for the post. I particularly like the following
statement:
"The real scandal, it argues, is that the world lacks neither
funds nor expertise to solve most of our health problems.
Rather, it lacks the moral commitment and political will to do
so."

I have been shouting this at the top of my voice in every possi-
ble forum, that God in his mercy has provided enough for every
living beings need and not greed!!! I would like to rephrase the
second sentence by adding to it transparency and accountability
as follows:
"....Rather, it lacks the moral commitment and political will to
make all transactions transparent and accountable!!"

Hardly 10 to 20% of the funding is directed towards achieving
the ultimate objective. The rest gets dissipated in various du-
bious ways, to help achieve the 10 to 20%!!

The only way, I think, all this can be changed is to ban cur-
rency circulation and have only one genuine account for every
individual and organization and make all transactions transpar-
ent on the web for anyone to see.

Then most leaders of most developing countries would not be di-
verting funds abroad or to benami accounts. The present form of
democracy followed in most countries of the world, is enemy num-
ber one, as it makes every politician to spend huge sums of
money o win elections.

Does anyone differ with me?
