Request for Information on Mothers who are HIV positive/have AIDS
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear all,
I am a photo-journalist and I am working on a project on mothers who
are HIV positive/have AIDS. I would like to document their socio-
economical situation:
* How the government is / is not participating in terms of health
care and financial help?
* How do their families cope?
* Is there a social stigma attached to AIDS?
* What type of preparation do the families have for the children's
future should their mothers die, (financial situation; who will
look after the children? How will they go to school etc.? Will they
be given away to be adopted).
* What is, at present, the survival rate of adults with HIV/AIDS?
Does it vary depending from the country in which they are living?
* Did these women get AIDS from their partner/through childbirth/
prostitution...?
* How many husbands are still alive to look after the children?
* How do the children cope with such tragedy?
* Do the governments have any counselling into place to help the
children face such a scary and life threatening event?
* What is the role of foreign help and organizations/charities pre-
sent on the territory?
I was wondering if you could suggest me the names of any organiza-
tions/charities who work in these fields in Sierra Leone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again for your time!
