RFI: Computerised clinical records
----------------------------------
Do any members use or know of a computerised system for recording,
directing and auditing clinical care? The sort of system I have in
mind is one which records basic patient information, plus major
indicators such as height, weight, HIV status (if known) and relevant
past history; then takes the examiner through a series of protocols
(e.g. child with fever, ante-natal mother with fever, productive
cough, etc.); windows with questions (Fever more than [a certain
amount]: Yes/No, Blood in stool Yes/No) lead on to a diagnosis and
preferred treatment options (ORS, Co-trimoxazole, admit for rehydra-
tion, etc.). Clicking on a specific treatment leads to suggested
doses, and duration (appropriate to condition and age of patient),
confirming this prints out a label (in local language) in the phar-
macy (+ patient info leaflet if necessary) and adjusts pharmacy bal-
ance. All records would be auditable on a named and an unnamed basis.
All protocols would be based on WHO guidance where possible.
Any pointers would be much appreciated.
