DFI: Conflict and Reproductive Health
-------------------------------------
Dear Afro-neters,
My name is Samson Barigye. I am a student doing a Masters Degree
in Peace and Conflict Studies at Makerere University, Kampala,
Uganda. My research interest is Reproductive Health Issues dur-
ing Conflict and Internal Displacement; I am particularly inter-
ested in Adolescents' Sexual and Reproductive Health.
As such, I am inquiring and requesting that if any one of you
knows organisations doing this kind of work, or particular stud-
ies, research projects, review reports, programmes, etc. that
have established a relationship between Conflict and Reproduc-
tive Health, please let me know.
I will be very grateful for your assistance.

Dear Samson,
You may wish to consult the UNFPA website for information and
descriptions of funded projects in Africa and many other regions
of the world. Ms. Pamela Delargy (mailto:delargy@unfpa.org)chief
of Emergency Response Unit at UNFPA, may be able to provide fur-
ther information. Researching google.com will provide a broad
range of sources including Reproductive Health Consortium for
Refugees, etc.
Best wishes,
Rosemary Barber-Madden

Dear Samson,
I am a collaborator of the International Centre for Reproductive
Health, Ghent University, Belgium and presently based in Mozam-
bique. We do collaborate with Prof. Edward Kirumira at Makerere
(dept. of Sociology). My colleague is working on Sexual and Re-
productive Health in Refugees and Internally Displaced People,
with emphasis on adolescents. I am sure you can contact her to
ask for information. You can look at http://www.icrh.org to look
at our work and send an E-mail for information.

Dear Samson,
There are several good resources available about reproductive
health in conflict situations.
Here are three resources which have many other useful refer-
ences:
"The Reproductive Health of Refugees." Special supplement. Ed.
Laurel Shreck. International Family Planning Perspectives 26
(2000): 16192.
Protecting the Future: HIV prevention, care and support among
displaced and war affected populations. This manual from the In-
ternational Rescue Committee is available on line at:
http://www.theirc.org/index.cfm/wwwID/436/topicID/86
or can be ordered online in hardcopy from the publishers, Ku-
marian Press.
Inter-Agency Working Group, Reproductive Health in Refugee
Situations: An Inter-Agency Field Manual (Geneva: UNHCR, 1999).
Available at: http://www.ippf.org/resource/refugeehealth/manual/
Good luck with your studies.
