RFI: Jobs in the Development Sector
-----------------------------------
Hello all who subscribe to AFRO-NET.
I have been a subscriber for about a month now and I find AFRO-NET in-
teresting. However, I write for purely personal reasons. Can someone
guide me as to how one searches jobs in the development sector? I am
more than confused.
I am partly educated in India (M.Sc. in Foods & Nutrition, Community
Nutrition specialisation, Univ. of Delhi, India) and partly in UK,
M.Sc. Development Economics and Policy, Univ. of Reading, UK). My area
of interest is the economics and policy studies of nutrition, poverty,
agricultural trade led growth and growth per se (essentially the new
growth theories). There seems to be interesting things going on in the
world in this study area, however in practical terms there seems to be
a dearth for directors only. What happens to beginners like me? Also, I
am English speaking, I am living in Germany these days after my mar-
riage to a German national.
Can someone help with some practical guidance through this maze? I look
forward to your advice.
Yours truly,
Shoma Gomes

P.S. I am not familiar with the rules of AFRO-NET. If this mail in any
way is offending to the readers, I apologise. But, I hope you un-
derstand my level of confusion, in writing so.
[From the moderator: We usually do not forward individual requests for employment. But here a general problem comes up - the chance to gain practical experience in the Development Sector. I am sure there are several programmes available for this purpose, e.g. GTZ is running a Project Field Assistance programme. DN]
