RFI: Malaria Prophylaxis in Africa (2)

While living in Mali I was taking Lariam for a while and found that it
had unpleasant side-effects such as insomnia, etc. I was advised to
switch to doxycycline (100 mg/day). You are supposed to begin taking
the pills 2 days prior to travel and continue for 28 days after leaving
the malarious area. One side effect to be aware of is that it causes
your skin to be more sensitive to the sun.
