RFI: Pharmaceutical/Medical Supplies Inventory Management Software
------------------------------------------------------------------

Namibia's Central Medical Stores (CMS) recently acquired a custom-
programmed computerized system for managing pharmaceutical and medi-
cal supplies acquisition, storage and distribution. Unfortunately,
the system's designer has apparently become unavailable to correct
problems CMS is encountering while using the system.

CMS has begun to look for a replacement for the system. One option
has been to look at an adaptation of 'AccPac', an accounting package,
that would be supported by the local branch of an international ac-
counting firm. This approach would appear to require a good many
"work-arounds" to accommodate special needs of pharmaceutical and
medical supplies management.

While computer support for the management of a medium-sized pharma-
ceutical and medical supplies warehouse would seem to be an applica-
tion that would have been addressed by any number of commercial soft-
ware applications, searching the Internet comes up with few appropri-
ate packages.

We have looked at 'mSupply' and will study it further, but we are
wondering if anyone has practical experience of a commercial off-the-
shelf package or custom-designed system that has proven to be stable
and reliable operating on an NT twenty-user network. Especially after
the un-fortunate experience with a custom-designed system, the users
are very skittish about acquiring something that does not offer local
support, but a good history of reliability and stability could re-
place the requirement of a local phone call for support.

As this is likely a topic that will not interest a great many of
AFRO-NETS subscribers, feel free to answer to my personal e-mail ad-
dress <jbclark@iafrica.com.na>.

Many thanks.
