Scholarship for Sub-Saharan African (4)
---------------------------------------

Do you know of any funding from this agency that would assist a teach-
ers' resource center in Tanzania. We are doing work in six regions of
Tanzania to train teachers who will help lift the academic achievement
of secondary school students. Currently, only 5% of students graduating
from primary school go on to secondary school.

We've been invited into TZ to help train teachers via staff develop-
ment, curriculum writing, material and teaching aid creation, etc. I'm
doing my doctoral thesis on this project, "Mwangaza Education for Part-
nership", and the gains we've made in national rankings with the
schools we've worked with is extremely encouraging. We need to secure
further resources to continue our progress. Would this type of project
qualify for the groundwork you're trying to establish via the doctoral
sponsorship for those who've successfully navigated the TZ system? Our
feeling is that without adequate secondary schools, who will lead oth-
ers in the future?

Sincerely,

Rebecca Johnson Koelln
