Southern Africa HIV/AIDS Portal - AfroAIDSinfo launched today
-------------------------------------------------------------
See: http://www.afroaidsinfo.org/
AfroAIDSinfo is an Internet project of the South African Medical
Research Council (MRC). The aim of the project is to disseminate
important information on HIV/AIDS to researchers, the health
profession, the public, infected individuals, educators and policy-
makers. Carefully selected editorial and information links are
published on the portal in an ongoing effort to educate and update
each of these audiences and assist them in the fight against HIV/AIDS
in sub-Saharan Africa.
AfroAIDSinfo holds the potential to impact the HIV/AIDS pandemic in a
profoundly positive way through maintaining an appropriate two-way
information flow with its target audiences and providing them with
relevant up-to-date content.
Organisations Involved
The MRC developed and manages the AfroAIDSinfo portal, a project made
possible through funding from the The International Aids Society
(IAS) on behalf of the XIII International AIDS Conference (2000) and
Bristol-Myers Squibb HIV/AIDS Research Institute Secure the Future.
Other contributing partners include the South African Human Sciences
Research Council's Social aspects of HIV/AIDS and Health (SAHARA),
the South African AIDS Vaccine Initiative (SAAVI) and several other
organisations involved in southern Africa.
AfroAIDSinfo has been formally endorsed by the Ministry of Health of
Botswana and the South African Department of Health and was launched
on 28 November, 2002.
