Staging Posts (23)
------------------

Dear Contributors to Staging Posts:

It seems that there is a consensus that the implementation of the Stag-
ing Posts Concept would significantly improve health services in Africa
and, perhaps, in other parts of the Developing World. This consensus
prompts me to suggest finding an organisation, which would act as Proj-
ect Leader. My choice would be SatelLife, an organisation with proven
accomplishment and experience in Information Dissemination.

However, potential participants of the Staging Posts Service should
nominate others for consideration if such an action seems desirable. (I
am not connected to SatelLife in any form or manner.) Requests for
Staging Posts Service should be collected by the selected Project
Leader organisation, thus defining the initial magnitude of the under-
taking. Subsequently, proposals should be posted describing the type
and operation of equipment considered for distribution.

Based on my field experience I would suggest a rugged Laptop Computer
with CD-DVD capability with Solar Panel for battery recharging. The CD-
DVD capability will allow the viewing of complex medical-surgical pro-
cedures in motion as a video program. The video capability will be in-
valuable in diagnostics, treatment and in training. As a matter of in-
terest the cost of CD-DVD media is cheaper than a small printed / du-
plicated booklet. In consequence, local medical centres could record
and duplicate information specific to their region at less cost than
printing. This collaborative approach is aimed to provide the Project
Leader with substantial basic requirements to qualify the project for
financial assistance and other benefits.

I am volunteering my consulting service to the prospective Project
Leader to facilitate the realisation of the Staging Posts Service. It
is up to you people to act to make this wish come through.
