Dear Friends,

Golden Lecture

Gold has a price, but learning is priceless - Chinese Proverb

Cheers to your help with the Golden lecture of prevention. We had re-
markable assistance in conjunction with over 100 Global Health Net-
work faculty members world wide. According to old Russian saying "Do
not own 100 Roubles (or dollars), but have 100 friends". We do love
our global friends!! This saying turned out to be very true in the
case of golden lecture and our 100 friends. Now we want to involve
all 10,000 of you in the further development and distribution of this
lecture so that you too can tell your grandchildren that you taught a
million people from 180 countries across the world. We very much need
your input in this effort.

The attached lecture[*] represents the work of faculty members from
over 13 countries including Canada, China, Cuba, Greece, India, Is-
rael, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Russia, Ukraine, USA. What a
wonderful group!

As we have many times pointed out, the majority of life expectancy
gained through the course of the 20th century in both developing and
developed countries, happened due to advances in hygiene, public
health, and prevention. The importance of prevention was well known
to ancient Greeks as early as 5th century AD through the work of Hip-
pocrates, however many people still do not completely understand its
significance to global health. The purpose of the golden lecture is
to teach a million people world wide about prevention.

September 19th is celebrated as Hippocrates day in Greece. Hippo-
crates of Cos (also known as "father of medicine"), did not believe
in miraculous diseases or cures. He taught that proper diet is a ne-
cessity of health, and that climate has a profound influence on both
mind and body. We suggest that Hippocrates day be hailed world wide
for the celebration of prevention, a World Prevention Day where we
can raise awareness about prevention and work together to prevent
disease. On September 19th, 2003, we would like to "marry" the medi-
cal concepts of Hippocrates and preventive concepts of Greek goddess
of health Hygeia. According to Greek mythology, Hygeia was the young
beautiful goddess of good health and prevention, serving as attendant
of her father Asklepios (god of medicine) and Aphrodite. She too can
come to life on Sept. 19 to further her and our cause.

With both Hippocrates and his soon to be wife Hygeia looking down at
us, we cannot fail. This lecture is intended for distribution before
September 19th, 2003 for the purpose of teaching prevention world
wide as well as learning through the Internet. We would very much ap-
preciate any comments you have on the content of this lecture.

Please, let us know if you have any ideas about global distribution
of this lecture to the faculty members around the world. If you are
interested in translating this lecture into your native language, we
would very much appreciate your help.

Does anybody remember what May 29th is? Yes, this is Ron's birthday.
In addition to birthday cards, cakes, brand new Mercedes, etc., Ron
would like to pick your brain to plot a strategy by his birthday to
reach 250,000 people.

We are planning several approaches, and would like your thoughts. We
now have the addresses of over 1000 Directors of WHO Collaborating
centers who can be contacted electronically. We want to also reach
the Ministries of Health across the world and will need your help. We
would like to also reach the head epidemiologists in the Ministries.
In addition, we will approach the heads of public health in coun-
tries. It would be fantastic is if we can distribute this throughout
the schools, military, and government.

Who else can we reach? Perhaps there will be a football game in your
country on Sept. 19, and we can show the lecture to 100,000 people
all at once!!

We very much need your comments on the lecture, as well as ideas to
establish the maximum distribution in your country, and the world.

True gold fears no fire - Chinese proverb....
The Golden Lecture of prevention learning will fear no fire.
