Transfusion-associated paediatric AIDS
--------------------------------------

Dear AFRO-NETS members,

I am writing to find out research groups or individuals working in Af-
rica, who have an interest in transfusion-associated paediatric
HIV/AIDS. It has become clear in recent years that the prevalence of
severe paediatric anaemia requiring blood transfusion, particularly in
malaria-endemic regions has markedly increased. At the same time, the
prevalence of HIV among blood donors is also on the increase, to the
extent that safe blood has become a scarce and rare commodity. I have
an interest in rational management of paediatric anaemia that maximises
the therapeutic benefit and markedly reduces the mortality and compli-
cations risk associated with both therapy and the disease.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
