The African Malaria Network Trust (AMANET) is a pan-African non-profit institution whose Mission is to promote capacity strengthening, performance and impact of African malaria R & D institutions. The Trust was incorporated in Tanzania on 14th March 2002. Currently AMANET undertakes short- and long-term training of African malaria researchers, infrastructure improvement, equipping research institutions, and sponsorship of clinical and field trials of candidate malaria intervention tools. AMANET is pleased to invite applications from suitable candidates for a vacant position of Projects and Sites Manager.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The post holder will be a member of the AMANET Secretariat in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and will be based in Dar es Salaam. The Projects and Sites Manager (PSM) shall be responsible for direct supervision of AMANET sponsored clinical trials and projects at the various networked sites. The position requires a dynamic, self motivated team player willing to travel extensively across Africa. S/he is the principal assistant to the Clinical Trials Coordinator.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
-Responsible for implementation and supervision of AMANET projects;
-The post-holder will be primarily responsible for coordinating and managing an Afro Immuno Assay project under the framework of European Malaria Vaccine. Developers Association (EMVDA) aiming at harmonization of malaria assays and establishment of correlates of immunity for vaccine - potential malaria antigens;
-Participate in planning and monitoring of clinical trials following ICH/GCP and other international regulations;
-Play a role in the design and preparation of trial protocols, investigators' brochures, informed consent statements, reference manuals, SOPs etc;
-Ensure timely performance of AMANET sponsored projects across Africa;
-Be an active member of the Clinical Trials Team;
-Identifying needs and propose training at specific trial sites;
-Ensure good quality data is collected;
-Participate in SOPs preparations (in collaboration with investigators) for the protocol and ethics;
-To liaise with other senior staff within the Network, EMVDA, AMANET secretariat as well as appropriate governance structures with respect to projects and sites management matters;
-To follow all AMANET administrative procedures, and contribute appropriately to the work of AMANET in Africa;
-Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Managing Trustee.
QUALIFICATIONS
-MD or equivalent with additional postgraduate degree (at least MSc or equivalent, in public health, epidemiology, paediatrics, tropical medicine, communicable diseases, biostatistics, molecular biology or immunology);
-Postgraduate training in clinical research and / or product development is essential;
-Solid knowledge and experience of ICH / GCP;
-Familiarity with health research ethics issues in African settings is desirable;
-Previous training and experience in carrying out and monitoring clinical and field trials of interventions is required; and
-Computer skills are essential;
-Knowledge of French is an advantage.
