Research Clinicians/Paediatricians
The MRC Unit, The Gambia is the Council's largest establishment conducting medical research in a developing country. The Unit aims to improve the health of people in low-income countries by excellence in multi-disciplinary research programmes.
We are seeking two Research Clinicians/Paediatricians with experience on clinical trials in developing countries. The post-holders will work on a trial to evaluate the safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of a multi-dose vial for Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MDV PCV13).
This is an ideal opportunity for two ambitious Clinicians who wish to pursue a career in clinical research.
We seek someone with:
Essential
Ø MB BS.
Ø FWACP Part 1 or equivalent.
Ø Practical experience of health research in developing countries.
Ø Previous experience in conducting clinical trials.
Ø Experience of staff management.
Ø Excellent written and spoken English.
Ø Commitment to working in a multi-disciplinary team.
Ø Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
Ø A flexible and well-organized approach to work and an ability to meet deadlines.
Ø Attentiveness to detail.
Ø Excellent organisational skills.
Ø Willingness to be on-call and work outside the normal working hours.
Preferred
Ø Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Ø FWACP Part 2.
Ø Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access).
The salary attached to the post is in occupational group E1/E2 dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for E1 is from 565,328 Dalasis per annum to 774,188 Dalasis per annum after tax. This converts to a salary range of $18,844 - $25,806 per annum after tax using the current Dalasis/USD exchange rate. If you have your FWACP Part 2 the salary will be in Occupational Group E2 at a salary range of between 789,111 Dalasis to 997,956 per annum after tax. This converts to a salary range of $26,303 - $33,265 per annum after tax using the current Dalasis/USD exchange rate. Please note, however, that the salary package is paid in Dalasis and the USD figure quoted is just given as a guide.
For displaced staff the package will include furnished accommodation, flights, contribution to school fees for children and other benefits.
The appointments will be for 18 months.
