Vacancy: Resource Centre Coordinator - Nigeria

Journalists Against AIDS (JAAIDS) Nigeria, a media-based non-
governmental HIV/AIDS advocacy organisation in Nigeria, requires the
services of a Coordinator for its soon-to-be-opened Media Resource
Centre on HIV/AIDS.

The resource centre, to be situated in Lagos, will provide access to
electronic and non-electronic HIV/AIDS resources for journalists and
other members of the public. The centre will offer internet resources
and host a documentation library which will include books, literature
materials, reference documents, CD-ROMs, monographs etc. The centre
will also be open to members of the public, especially NGOs and CBOs
that do not have the resources on their own to set up a health infor-
mation resource facility.

DUTIES

The duties to be performed by the Resource Centre Coordinator shall
include:
a. directly supervising day-to-day operations of the centre, includ-
   ing the running of documentation library and the electronic/internet
   facilities;

b. procure, stock, maintain and continually update the electronic and
   non-electronic resources available in the centre;

c. source and compile relevant HIV-related research materials, publi-
   cations, reports, abstracts and other documentation for inclusion in
   the resource centre;

d. promote the optimum usage of the facilities of the centre by jour-
   nalists, HIV/AIDS activists and other interested members of the pub-
   lic;

e. design and execute user education programmes, skills-building
   workshops and other training programmes to equip journalists and
   other members of the public to use the centre efficiently and produc-
   tively;

f. conduct user evaluation surveys and other feedback activities g.
   generally attend to all required HIV/AIDS information needs of users
   and other members of the public.

REQUIREMENTS

The person to be appointed the Resource Centre Coordinator shall ful-
fil all of these requirements:

a. A degree in mass communications, library studies or any other
   relevant discipline;
b. Previous work experience with the media, health-related NGO or in-
   formation resource facility;
c. Broad familiarity with issues, trends and views about HIV/AIDS;
d. Experience with use of computers, especially with word processing
   software;
e. Willingness to work long hours with minimum supervision;
f. Strong personal initiative and excellent organisational skills.

The Resource Centre Coordinator is a full-time position. Interested
