Violence against women - South Africa (2)
-----------------------------------------

The contents of Elias K. Bongmba's article is noted with interest.

In Port Elizabeth - South Africa, Rape Crisis Centres have been established
in conjunction with the Medical Fraternity and the Police with volunteer
counsellors.

These are based at hospitals and when a rape is reported the victim is
taken to such a Centre. There they are advised, counselled and examined in
a more friendly environment. The staff manning these centres are trained to
deal specifically with rape and the victim.

As these Centres are still fairly new the impact can not yet be commented
on.

If anybody is interested I can source more information on the establishing
and running of the Rape Crisis Centres.
