WHO IRS for malaria control guidelines launch Friday Sept. 15
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Arata Kochi, Head of WHO's Malaria Program, will be in
Washington, D.C. this Friday to launch WHO's revised Indoor
Residual Spraying Guidelines for malaria control. He will
discuss the historical suppression of DDT and emphasize its
safety and cost-effectiveness for IRS.
Also, Africe Fighting Malaria is co-sponsoring a Congressional
briefing this Monday, September 18th, from 2:00-3:30 in
Washington, D.C. as well. Please let me know if you would like
details and are interested to attend.
Included below is a URL to a letter Senator Tom Coburn sent to
the head of the European Union, President José Manuel Barroso,
challenging the EU to end all threats (both on and off the
record) of agricultural boycotts on African countries who want
to use DDT to save their children, pregnant women and millions
others from the deadly scourge of malaria.

There you can also access the official response from President
Barroso. President Barroso's letter is an important
communication because there have been threats floating around in
countries of Africa of agricultural bans if countries choose to
use DDT. As you will see, the official EU position is countries
are free to use DDT if governments decide DDT is the chemical of
choice. Additionally, the EU will not enact any import bans of
products from countries that choose to use DDT. Please read both
letters.
