An editorial in the latest issue of the medical journal The Lancet paints
an optimistic picture of the future of the World Health Organization
under Dr. Jong-Wook Lee, who takes over from departing Director General
Gro Harlem Brundtland July 21.

There will be "no high-profile commissions, no command-and-control culture,"
which characterized the WHO under Brundtland, according to The Lancet.
The journal praises the new administration's clarity of vision and cohesive-
ness as instrumental to achieving its two main priorities: HIV/AIDS and
strengthening health systems.
