[e-drug] 16th WHO Model Essential Medicines List (2)

E-DRUG: 16th WHO Model Essential Medicines List (2)
---------------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

I guess the rejection to include oseltamivir for avian flue [in humans]
could be because cases are most infectious a few days before symptoms
appear, so it has an individual therapeutic value but may not offer a large
enough public health benefit?

For trypanosoma brucei gambiense 2nd stage: clear for the
eflornithine/nifurtimox (i guess no news about an oral eflornithine
formulation?) but what about then the rhodesiense form for which there is
still only the ancient melarsoprol ('arsenic in antifreeze') to which
despite its toxicity in addition the parasite has managed to develop
resistance due to uncontrolled wide spread use of trypanocidals in cattle, i suggest to develop a EMLa to define an essential list for treatment of animal reservoirs...

section 19.2 tuberculine diagnostic (PPD): an asterisk (*) could be added to mention that tuberculine readings may be difficult in immunocompromised
persons and must take into account the patients history, medical condition,
symptoms, X-ray findings and previous history of BCG.
