The 1st African Regional Conference on TB Pharmaceutical Management which will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa at the Sandton Sun Hotel from July 19-21, 2011 is quickly approaching! Registration has been extended to June 24, 2011 and poster guidelines, travel and hotel information are available on the conference website (http://africatb2011.wordpress.com/).

The conference will consist of attendees from several National TB Programs in the Africa region from different countries as well as various partners such as the WHO, Stop TB, Global Drug Facility, USAID, UNITAID, South Africa Department of Health and Southern Africa Development Community. A number of featured speakers will also be there including -

Dr. Muhwa Jeremiah Chakaya - As the Chief Research Officer at the Kenya Medical Research Institute in Nairobi, Kenya; Dr. Chakaya develops, coordinates and implements research proposals on lung health which focuses on tuberculosis and is geared at improving diagnosis and treatment outcomes in high HIV prevalence areas of Kenya. he previously served as head of the National Leprosy and Tuberculosis Control Programme of the Ministry of Health and continues to provide technical support as well as advice to the program in all areas of TB care and prevention.

Dr. M. Angélica Salomão - Originally from Mozambique, Dr. Salomão is a Medical Officer for DOTS Expansion for East and Southern African countries at the WHO in Zimbabwe where she promotes and facilitates the development of appropriate interventions to address TB as part of the DOTS Strategy in Member States of the Sub region. She also coordinates the provision of technical support for implementation, monitoring and evaluation of TB interventions and contributes to the implementation of the TB research agenda while also providing support to countries in the Africa Region to improve access to high quality 1st and 2nd line TB medicines.
