E-DRUG: 1st ISDB Asia-Pacific regional meeting (2)
-------------------------------------------------
Dear E-Druggers.
I encourage all who will be participating in the ISDB Asia-Pacific regional
meeting in Penang to consider undertaking a joint project to systematically
evaluate the impact of their activities. We know from studies in both
industrialized and developing countries that unbiased information alone may not
be sufficient to improve practice. We also know that the way in which
information is presented can increase or lessen its impact.
It would be most valuable to know how much, and under what conditions,
unbiased information presented in drug bulletins results in knowledge
improvement and behavior change. It would also be useful to know which types
of people access the different kinds of information that bulletins present and
why, e.g., information about new products, about essential drugs, about
recommended therapy for common illnesses, about therapy for unusual problems,
about cost-effectiveness, etc. Armed with data from a systematic evaluation, it
might be possible to better target bulletins to
achieve their objectives, and to link them more effectively with other
programs to improve use of medicines.

---- Note from the moderator for compuserve users on E-drug:
We apologize that compuserve users were not getting any E-drug messages for the
last 2 weeks. It was unclear for all why this was happening. Finally we found
the problem: the Healthnet server changed its "sender" name to
junk@nemesis.healthnet.org on 28 April.
Apparently Compuserve suppresses all email messages with the word 'junk' in the
header of an Internet message!
Healthnet has meanwhile removed the word 'junk' from its headers...
