E-DRUG: 2005 International Drug Price Indicator Guide Available online
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Colleagues,
Management Sciences for Health is pleased to announce the availability of the Web version of the 2005 edition of the International Drug Price Indicator Guide. The Guide provides a spectrum of prices from 22 sources, including pharmaceutical suppliers, international development organizations, and government agencies. The Guide assists supply officers to determine the probable cost of pharmaceutical products for their programs, allows users to compare current prices paid to prices available on the international market or assess the potential financial impact of changes to a drug list, and helps to support rational drug use education.
The 2005 edition of the Guide includes more than 75 new items (for a total of more than 975 items). The therapeutic classes with the most new entries this year are anti-infectives (especially antibacterials and antimalarial medicines) and diagnostics. We have also added 25 pediatric formulations.
The 2005 edition of the Guide was produced in collaboration with the World Health Organization. Development and publication of the Guide were supported by the Strategies for Enhancing Access to Medicines (SEAM) Program (http://www.msh.org/seam), which is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The Web version of the 2005 edition is posted on the Manager's Electronic Resource Center (http://erc.msh.org/), along with data from the 1996 edition to the present. We encourage you to visit the site and explore special features that you can use to create custom lists of drugs, compare your prices, and plan a budget.
If you are not already on our mailing list, please contact the MSH Bookstore at bookstore@msh.org or visit our eBookstore at www.msh.org/resources/publications to request a copy of the 2005 International Drug Price Indicator Guide. The CD-ROM version will ship in mid-April. We did not produce a print version of the Guide this year.
If you would like to contribute your organization's price information to the next edition of the Guide, please contact me at jmcfadyen@msh.org. I would be delighted to discuss this with you.
Best regards,
Julie E. McFadyen
