E-DRUG: 2007: a new year, the same e-drug rules!
------------------------------------------------
Dear 3019 E-druggers (as of 1 Jan 2007),
At the start of the 13th year of E-drug, the moderators and staff of Satellife/Healthnet/AED wish you a successful 2007!
Some E-druggers wondered whether we had problems as no messages were circulated since 22 December. It is nice to see that you are missing the regular messages, but nothing was wrong here. I suspect you all had different priorities over the festive season.
Let me take this opportunity to remind all subscribers of some common issues:
- E-drug messages must be related to the issue of essential drugs. Commercial messages, bad language are not accepted.
- E-drug is in principle meant for professionals. Lay people are welcome to post messages if that contributes to better understanding of issues (e.g. consumer or patient groups). However, we do NOT post questions by patients. Please talk to your own doctor or pharmacist!
- E-drug is moderated to improve quality and standardisation of messages. Each message is checked for appropriateness, relevance, clarity, completeness and netiquette.
- Moderation is done by volunteers, who take turns to moderate. Please be patient if it takes 24 hours to moderate, as sometimes your moderators are travelling or on thin Internet connections in Africa.
- In case you want to discuss a posting, or you have questions or problems: you can reach the acting moderator at:
     e-drug-owner@healthnet.org
- You can ONLY submit e-drug messages to e-drug@healthnet.org from the exact SAME email account that you are subscribed to. This to avoid the thousands of spam messages that we otherwise would get. We moderators don't even see them, so check from which account you send your contributions!
- Attachments are not accepted at e-drug due to virus risks. They are automatically deleted, so the moderator doesn't even see them!
- Preferably send plain (ASCII) text messages. HTML messages are automatically translated into ASCII, and this messes up your layout.
- Anonymous postings are not accepted. Moderators may, in exceptional circumstances (whistleblowers?), agree to withhold name or contact details of a sensitive posting.
- To help the 3000+ e-drug readers understand your background and context, please give your full name, affiliation, email address and country at the end of your message.
The country name is needed because some country domain names are not obvious, and some people are in countries different from their mailing address.
If you have no current affiliation to an institution or company, please write either:
    - Health professional
    - Non-health professional
    - Student or
    - Interested lay person
- Before sending a common question, check the E-drug archives! Many questions have already been answered. ALL 20,000 E-drug messages are searchable at:
     http://www.essentialdrugs.org/edrug/archives.php
- When considering your posting, think about the netiquette:
Rule 1: Remember the Human!
Rule 2: Adhere to the same standards of behaviour online that you follow in real life
Rule 3: Know where you are in cyberspace
Rule 4: Respect other people's time and bandwidth
Rule 5: Make yourself look good online
Rule 6: Share expert knowledge
Rule 7: Help keep flame wars under control
Rule 8: Respect other people's privacy
Rule 9: Don't abuse your power
Rule 10: Be forgiving of other people's mistakes
More info on netiquette at: http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html
- Please respect copyrights. Abstracts or quotations are normally acceptable. Sometimes moderators will allow copyrighted text on a "fair use" basis.
- Include an Internet address for more information, so E-druggers can look for more details. Please verify the address before submitting your message!
- General information about the mailing list is at:
    http://list.healthnet.org/mailman/listinfo/e-drug
- If you are worried about getting too many E-drug messages, consider switching to "digest" mode delivery. E-drug will then collate several messages into one 27 KB file. This can be done at your personal subscription page:
    http://list.healthnet.org/mailman/options/e-drug/
You must know your password to change your options (including changing the password, itself) or to unsubscribe. If you never made one, leave it blanc.
You can also make such adjustments via email by sending a message to:
    e-drug-request@healthnet.org
With the word `help' in the subject or body (don't include the quotes), and you will get back a message with instructions.
For more information about Mailman for list members, consult the Mailman List Member Manual at:
    http://www.list.org/mailman-member/index.html
    http://www.list.org/mailman-member.pdf (about 90 KB)
- To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to:
    e-drug-leave@healthnet.org
- To subscribe to this list, send a message to:
    e-drug-join@healthnet.org
When subscribing or unsubscribing, the subject and body of the message will be ignored, so it doesn't matter what you put there. When you receive a confirmation message, reply to it to complete your request.
Thanks for contributing to E-drug!
