E-DRUG: 3rd ICIUM Conference 10-14 April 2011 in Alexandria, Egypt
------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear all,
The Essential Medicines and Pharmaceutical Policies Unit of the WHO
Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) is pleased to
inform you of an important global event in the pharmaceutical field
which we are going to host in Egypt from 10-14 April 2011 in Bibliotheca
Alexandrina.
This is the 3rd International Conference on Improving the Use of
Medicines (ICIUM). The theme of the 3rd ICIUM is Informed strategies,
Effective policies, lasting solutions.
The flyer about the event can be downloaded from the WHO/EMRO website at
http://www.emro.who.int/emp/media/pdf/icium.pdf
ICIUM is a unique event that happens every 7 years; Thailand had the
privilege to host the first two ICIUMs in 1997 and 2004 respectively.
[All info about ICIUM past and future conferences is available at:
http://www.icium.org WB]
WHO currently estimates that around half of medicines are prescribed and
used irrationally worldwide. This has serious health and economic
consequences and it drastically undermines efforts to improve the access
to medicines.
With focus on low and middle income countries these conferences are
seminal as they assemble the policy makers, practitioners and
researchers from all over the world to discuss the issues of
inappropriate use of medicines and help formulate strategies for
sustainably improving use of medicines especially for vulnerable
populations.
We would appreciate if you kindly disseminate this message along with
the flyer attached among your list of members and networks.
