CALL FOR PAPERS: Fifth Training Workshop and Symposium
8 - 11 July 2019
The fifth Training workshop and symposium of the MURIA (Medicines Utilisation Research in Africa) Group in collaboration with ISPE (The International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology) will be held at the North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa.
Theme: Enhancing future patient care through collaborative research
The event takes place over three and a half days. Pre-symposium workshops and symposium are intended to further develop and progress medicines utilisation research, pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigilance in Africa.
Who should attend
Any individual in the academic or business environment with an interest in drug utilisation research, pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigilance will benefit from this event.

Day 1
* Introduction & use of drug utilisation metrics
* Pharmacoepidemiology: Concepts & study designs
* Pharmacovigilance: Concepts & regulatory framework supporting reporting of individual case reports
* Pharmacovigilance: Causality
* Application of WHO ATC/ DDD methods in medicine utilisation research: A hands-on experience
* Pharmacoepidemiology & Databases
* Pharmacovigilance: From case reports to case series
* Pharmacovigilance: Study Designs
Day 2
* Quality indicators for medicine utilisation: Development & implementation
* Pharmacovigilance: Spontaneous adverse event reports & signal detection methods * Advanced pharmacoepidemiology
* Pharmacovigilance: Active surveillance & communicating emerging safety issues
* Basic statistics for drug utilisation & pharmacoepidemiology research
* Advanced pharmacoepidemiology & patient-generated health data * Risk management plans
* Advanced statistics for drug utilisation & pharmacoepidemiology research (using SPSS)
* Effectiveness of risk minimization activities

Conference fees per regular participant (ZAR 2250.00) and students (ZAR 1650.00). The fees cover all workshop activities, the symposium, all subsistence during the day and a reception. The fees do not cover hotel, travel, airport transfers or evening subsistence costs apart from the reception.
The deadline for abstract submission is April 26th.
Abstract acceptance letters will be sent out by May 10th.
