[e-drug] A course for procurement planning for all pharmaceutical supplies?

E-DRUG: A course for procurement planning for all pharmaceutical supplies?
----------------------------------------------------------

I value very much the range of courses being provided through
IDA Solutions, and also appreciate this initiative from IDA, and the
donors that are supporting IDA Solutions with training.

I was interested that one of the participants from the IDA
Solution course mentions that they make sure that lessons learnt in
M&E are applied to other areas. (Nicole Visser E-drug, Aug 3 - Review
of IDA-Solutions M&E course for ARV procurement and supply). I think
that is an excellent outcome of any training.

However, and without demeaning the ability of colleagues to adapt
training, I believe it would be useful to provide a holistic training
approach that would in fact enable participants to apply the lessons
more efficiently to other areas. It should be possible for a
training programme such as the one provided by IDA Solutions to
capture the principles that would enable participants to recognise
that health management and reforms therein need to be addressed in a
holistic way.

Could I ask IDA Solutions if there is a training course
available for a holistic approach to such programmes, like M&E for
ARVs, that can address procurement of all medicines? I ask because
the same staff being trained to monitor closely ARV status in
their respective countries are likely to be responsible for other
health (or pharmaceutical) commodities, too.

The basis of my request to IDA Solution to consider providing a
wider, holistic training package is that we all acknowledge that if
there is a problem in one area of drug management, it is likely that
there are problems in all areas of drugs. Attempting to improve
management of resources in one area alone is unlikely to result in
success due to the fact that associated areas are not equally or
similarly addressed. Stressing a single commodity or group of drugs
within that commodity group might place too much focus on that group
to the cost of other areas.
