Title: There is no difference between A2 antagonists and ACE inhibitor
on improving prognosis of cardiac failure.
ELITE2 trial revealed there is no difference between losartan (angiotensin
2 receptor antagonist ) and captopril (ACE inhibitor) upon effect of
improving prognosis of cardiac failure.
The result of ELITE 2 trial was addressed at AHA'99, Atlanta, by Prof.
Bertram Pitt, Michigan University.
Until then, angiotensin 2 receptor antagonists have been expected to have
equal or more effect than ACE inhibitor upon improving prognosis of cardiac
failure.
Today, losartan is approved in 26 countries for the treatment of cardiac
failure.
After this,the Merck company, the pharmaceutical company of losartane
production, decided to label losartan that it should not be the first
choice for cardiac failure. And also decided not to apply for approval in
US for cardiac failure remedy. Clinical trials for another angiotensin 2
receptor antagonists are ongoing, and the result of these trials are
expected.
