E-drug: Advertising in online journals (cont)
---------------------------------------------
I have come across a way of online marketing that differs from those
described in the Wall Street Journal article submitted by Joel
Lexchin (March 28). It goes like this:

Experts are invited to write reviews of various medical topics for a
sponsor & advertisement-financed website for physicians.
Pharmaceutical companies are asked if they want to place
advertisements above the reviews. The review authors receive their
payment only after a company has agreed to place an ad by their
review. The ads are accompanied by a text that reads "The advertising
company has no influence over the content of [site's name]".

In my view, there is a clear risk that the authors adapt the contents
of their texts in order to attract advertisements and receive their
rewards.
