E-DRUG: Advice on Hospital Pharmacy Practice
-------------------------------------------
Dear E-Druggers,
I was wondering if anyone could help us with the
following proposal on Hospital Pharmacy Practice in
Iran. Here it is:
Pharmaceutical care in hospitals has been found to be
one of our priorities in the country. We have proposed
to establish pharmaceutical care units in selected
hospitals this year in accordance with international
standards and hospital pharmacy practice. We are
trying to develop guidelines and standards through
this activity and hopefully implement them in the
country.
The 5-6 years pharmacy course in Iran is a doctorate
degree and includes subjects in basic sciences,
pharmacology, therapeutics, clinical pharmacy,
pharmaceutics, biopharmacy ........,and we believe
with a short course in hospital pharmacy (Fellowships,
workshops, structured courses and
.) our graduates
will be qualified to work as a hospital pharmacist.
Our proposed approach for this activity is to form a
number of teams for training other trainers. The core
training teams would be from university professionals
with practical background in pharmacy and also
pharmacists working in hospitals.
I have checked with WHO and their programs don't seem
to cover this kind of activities. Therefore, I am
looking for other countries' experiences on this issue
and/or practical advice and suggestions on
availability of these educational programs.
Your comments on this are greatly appreciated.
