WHO Technical Briefing Seminar on Essential Medicines Policies and Programming 2011
Geneva, 29th October to 2nd November 2012
Please find below the announcement of a one-week Technical Briefing Seminar which will be organized by the Department of Essential Medicines and Pharmaceutical Policies of WHO in Geneva later this year. Similar briefing seminars have been held annually since 1998.
The web site for the announcement and links to previous seminars is at http://www.who.int/medicines/technical_briefing/tbs/en/index.html.
The application form is available on the web at http://www.who.int/medicines/technical_briefing/formulaire/en/index.html .
The closing date for applications will be September 20th 2011. Early applications are encouraged for people from countries who need to apply for Schengen visas.
The programme, as previously, will include updates on among other topics, National medicines policies, quality assurance activities, the UN pre-qualification project, updates on the 2011 Meeting of the WHO Expert Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines, rational use of medicines, and the implications of international trade agreements. New sessions on country profiles and blood safety will be presented. Building on the success of the panel presentation session from 2011 participants from UNICEF, the Global Fund, Malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS disease control programmes will discuss different approaches to supply chain management. A more specific agenda will be made available shortly.
The seminar is aimed at national government officials working in pharmaceuticals department, WHO and other UN staff working on Access to Medicines programmes, NGO and pharmaceutical company staff and academics. Every year a mixture of participants are selected who ensure that there is active participation and discussion in all sessions. The PowerPoint slides and the resource documents are made available to all participants on a CD-ROM and are posted on the web site.
This year's seminar will be facilitated by Dr Richard Laing and other senior staff members at WHO, with input from country programme officers and advisers.
Participation at the seminar is free of charge but participants will have to arrange for and finance their own travel, board and lodging.
