E-DRUG: BBC World showing this weekend Sleeping Sickness Film
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi all,
This weekend, the Survival series on BBC World will showcase:
"The Deadliest Disease. In the heart of Africa, a battle is raging against sleeping sickness..."
This beautiful documentary on sleeping sickness was filmed earlier this year in the Bandundu province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The Rockhopper-produced film primarily focuses on communities suffering from sleeping sickness, and also features Dr Florent Mbo from DRC's national programme to control sleeping sickness (PNLTHA), Dr Léon Kazumba of CNPP, DRC, and a bit of DNDi's Els Torreele as she conducts a site assessment visit for the next clinical study.
The film will be showing on BBC World TV on Saturday 11th October at 0810 and 1710 GMT, and will repeat on Sunday 12th October at 0110 and 1410 GMT.
For those who aren't able to see the film, there is a short 6-minute film available on the Rockhopper website<www.rockhopper.tv/programmes/149/>, where you can also see the short features of the 7 other films in the series, which are described by Pamela Das of The Lancet has called 'beautifully shot' and 'impressive' as they 'vividly highlight practical, low-cost, community-led solutions to dis eases ranging from malaria in Uganda, pneumonia in the Philippines, to sleeping sickness the Demorattic Republic of the Congo...We see the devastating way illness can lay waste to livelihoods and productivity.'
