E-drug: Blood pressure or clean water?

The new guidelines from WHO on hypertension has, as mentioned earlier (Blood
pressure, WHO and the pharmaceutical industry) created a lively debate on
our GP E-mail network. This letter was forwarded by one of the participants
(MD, MPH, epidemiologist), with the comment: It is unbelievable that WHO
endorses guidelines which will increase sale of Plendil, Cozaar, Norvasc
etc. as primary prophylaxis of mild hypertension in a world where the
majority has no access to clean water. Food for thought.....
