E-DRUG: BMJ: Can India stop drug companies giving gifts to doctors? (2)
--------------------------------------------------------------
[Referring to the message on May 21] I am greatly encouraged by the efforts in India. Medicines must be used safely effectively and economically to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Unregulated pharmaceutical marketing is wrecking havoc on patients and increasing health system costs. Pharmaceutical marketing is secondary to these goals and we must do all we can to regularize it. It is no different in Kenya and this leads to patients getting medicines with incentives for the prescriber as opposed to what they need. To the Indian situation I say full steam ahead. To others, we must act in our own jurisdictions.
thanks.
