CALL FOR NEW MEMBERSHIP:
COMMUNITIES DELEGATION TO UNITAID: COMMUNITIES SUPPORT TEAM Application

Deadline: 28th June 2012 Applications from people living with HIV, affected by TB and/or malaria in Eastern Europe, Latin American and the Caribbean, and Asia, plus African countries with high UNITAID investments* are particularly encouraged to apply.
*Including Uganda, Mozambique, DRC, Ghana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi.
The Communities Delegation to UNITAID is seeking new members for its Communities Support Team, which works to raise awareness of UNITAID at country level, and to ensure UNITAID projects reach communities who need them. Full Terms of Reference are attached, and instructions on how to apply are included below. UNITAID is an international drug-purchasing facility, intervening for market impact to scale up access to prevention, diagnostic, and treatment products for HIV and AIDS, TB and malaria in developing countries. UNITAID raises money through a combination of taxes on airline tickets and long-term government funding. UNITAID is also a vehicle to encourage follow-on innovation, to ensure medicines are available in formulations and combinations that are best suited to the target populations and treatment conditions in developing countries.
For more information on UNITAID, please see www.unitaid.eu The Communities delegation to UNITAID, representing communities living with and/or affected by HIV, TB and/or malaria at UNITAID Board level, play a vital role in bringing the voices of affected Communities to key UNITAID Board decisions and activities. The Communities delegation have developed the Communities Support Team (CST) to strengthen their connection with voices on the ground in UNITAID-beneficiary countries, and to strengthen the delegations’ ability to monitor that UNITAID-purchased commodities are reaching those communities which need them.
The Communities Support Team (CST) is entering an exciting phase in its development, having completed a series of country consultations, connecting key UNITAID stakeholders (including government, UNITAID partners, civil society) at country level supported by UNITAID, and now moving into the next phase of its operations, working to contribute towards effectiveness of UNITAID supported country programs and specifically towards UNITAID- purchased medicines, diagnostics and preventive products reaching people on the ground. Full terms of reference for the CST are attached.
The Communities Support Team is seeking new membership. Applicants must be living with HIV, or affected by TB or malaria, and should be based in a country where UNITAID programmes are active (see http://www.unitaid.eu/what/countries).

Selection to the Communities Delegation will be based on the following criteria:
i. A person living with HIV and/or living with or had TB and/or living in communities affected by malaria;
ii. Demonstrated understanding of the scope of work of UNITAID and opportunities it presents, particularly as it relates to issues of people living with AIDS, affected by TB, and malaria in developing countries;
iii. Consistent internet, email and phone access;
iv. Ability to work well in written and spoken English (additional languages will be valued);
v. Ability and capacity to communicate and network effectively and broadly (must have functioning communication linkages in region or sub-regions);
vi. Diplomatic and strategic political and negotiating skills to work with donor, government, non-governmental organisations, private sector and other relevant entities;
vii. Openness, willingness and ability to learn, and to take on issues across constituency groups; viii.Willingness to adhere to the key performance indicators (KPIs) of the CST (see attached TORs);
ix. Assurance regarding availability of at least 10% of working time for UNITAID related duties; and
x. Adhering to strict confidentiality with regards to UNITAID board and committee documents where relevant

Completed applications will be assessed by a panel comprising the current Board member and Alternate, and Communities delegation Key Advisor/s/existing Communities Support Team members. The outcome of selection will be communicated to applicants by the end of July 2012.

Please note: Membership of the Communities Support Team is on a voluntary basis, and no remuneration will be provided.
