[e-drug] Comparative Analysis of Pharmacovigilance Systems in Five Asian Countries

E-DRUG: Comparative Analysis of Pharmacovigilance Systems in Five Asian Countries
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Colleagues,

Recognizing the importance of assisting countries to protect the public from poor quality and unsafe medicines, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) funded the Systems for Improved Access to Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS) Program to assess pharmacovigilance systems in five Asian countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal, the Philippines, and Thailand.

The objectives of this assessment were to:

- Benchmark the performance of national pharmacovigilance systems

- Identify replicable and successful experiences

- Map the contributions of donor agencies

- Recommend options for enhancing pharmacovigilance and post-market surveillance systems' capacity and performance

Dear Colleagues,

it is noted with serious concern that the issue of poor quality and
unsafe medicines and health products is one that needs to be looked
at. Capacity building and support to implement pharmacovigilance
programs are paramount to responding to some of these problems. I
believe it is a worthy initiative to extend some of these assistance
to Africa. Liberia is the newest member to the WHO Program for
International Drug Safety Monitoring and we need technical and
logistical supports to roll-out the pharmacovigilance program to all
major health facilities in Liberia.
