E-DRUG: Conference in Moldova

Recently (25-26 August 1997), an international conference was held
in Moldova on the subject of "Independent information of drugs". It
was organised by the NGO Information Pharmacological Centre "DRUGS"
and the National Pharmaceutical Institute of Moldova and funded by
Foundation SOROS in Moldova.
The participants of the conference which numbered 40 included
representatives from the government, academia, international
foundations, and religious organizations.
The following topics were discussed at the conference:
- The realisation of project "Creation of information
pharmacological centre of Moldova".
- The role of drug information centre in improving independent and
objective information about medicines.
- The formulary system in Moldova.
- The law about medicines in Moldova.
- The information pharmaceutical service of Moldova.
- Essential drugs lists of World Health Organisation and of Moldova.
- The promotion of WHO s Ethical Criteria of Drugs in Moldova.
- The problems of drug donations in Moldova.
- Consumers' rights for getting the information about drugs.
Two major recommendations of the conference were:
1. To establish a Common Council to study the problems of drugs
donations in Moldova.
2. To recommend the Health Ministry to begin the process of
creating formulary committees in hospitals of Moldova.
