Has there been no response in any EU country to the recent increase
in DTC advertising in the US and the loosening of restrictions in
other countries?

** as far as I know, no. The European directive was implemented, I
think, in 1994. At that time everybody was very aware of developments
in the US. Up till now most European countries have stuck to the idea
of banning DTC advertising for POM drugs. On the other hand, there is
of course the devlopment
of POM to P, or in otherwords to make more drugs from prescription
only in OTC drugs. DTC advertising is allowed for OTC drugs....thus
in a indirect way, more is possible now then a few years ago. -
