E-drug: Doxycycline becomes D.C.'s anthrax drug (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Leo Offerhaus' remark,

It looks as if somebody within CDC has been reading our
exchange of E-mail messages!! I am sorry for all those people
suffering side effects from the fluoroquinolones...

There are are really two separate issues:

(1) Which drugs should be used to treat victems of the attacks that
were made in the past, from a stain that may be treated effectively
with fewer side effects with doxy and other similiar products,

(2) Which drugs do you need in a stockpile for attacks which have
not yet happened?

A ciprofloxacin or fluoroquinolone only stockpile would be
expensive, and risk unwanted side effects. But there is also the
issue of a possible attack that could only be treated with
fluoroquinolones. It seems to me that the question for CDC and
Thompson here is how much of what drugs are needed in the
stockpile. Assuming we don't always prepare for the last attack. If
E-drug subscribers could answer that, it would be a public service.
