E-drug: drug donation to India (3)
----------------------------------
dear sir,
thanks for youe early responce. I am looking for specific drugs used
before and after kidney transplant. most of these drugs are manufactured
by either european or north american companies, as far as know. I am
giving the list of gdrugs i am looking for. please guide me further on
how i should get these drugs either 'free' or at reduced price.
the list is as follows:
1. Inj cyclosporine 50 mg
2. liquid cyclosporine 50 cc
3. inj cyclosporine 150 mg
4. Tab Azathioprine 50 mg
5. Tab Prednisolone 10 mg
6. Inj methyle prednisolone 500 mg
7. Inj methyle prednisolone 1 gm.
as you must be aware, these medicines are very costly and poor patients
who undergo kidney transplant can not afford to buy them. we are running
a charitable hospital in India where kidney operations are done at a
very low price. the funny part is that the cost of the operation for
these poor patients is 5 times cheaper than the cost of the medicines
they have to procure.
i am really seriuous about the issue. i am trying very hard to get these
drugs at a reduced price. awaiting your responce.
thanking you, sincerely,
parag

[Expensive drugs like cyclosporine are indeed the limiting factor on the
accessibility of kidney transplants in developing countries. Although these
drugs are very essential for the transplant patient, their high cost often
causes them to drop out of a national essential drug list, as other life-
saving interventions are much cheaper.
There are no easy solutions for this problem (and all the other expensive
drugs, like for MDR-TB and AIDS treatment). Maybe you could write to the
Headquarters of the company manufacturing cyclosporine and ask for a
special deal? They might have a budget for compassionate use.
Swiss NGOs would probably be reluctant to spend donor monies on these
expensive drugs.
Any other suggestions from E-druggers?
