E-DRUG: Essential drugs and Informal Health Sector

Dear E-druggers

In the growing area of E-drugs study, I am surprised to see that the
topic of Informal Health Sector is neglected. Nevertheless, all
aspects of E-drug policy are influenced by the informal provision of
health. The Informal Health Sector (IHS) can be defined as the market
provision of health, which escapes formal regulations and doesn't
benefit from legal and administrative protection. This sector has many
components :
     - The Informal Drugs Distribution as significant consequences on key
     elements of drug policy,
     - Traditional Healing (and Pharmacopoeia) can be in competition with
     rational use of drug,
     - Provision of Health Service by non professional health personnel or
outside health institutions without any supervision...
     - Food trade on the street influences the quality of nutrition in the
     country.

This topic is of greatest interest for crisis ridden countries were
regulation is very weak. It needs more attention. I am working on
these themes and would appreciate any thoughts or comments from you.
