[e-drug] Excellent systematic review on neuraminidase inhibitors

E-DRUG: Excellent systematic review on neuraminidase inhibitors
-----------------------------------------------------
[E-drug is informed that WHO will assess this new publication (although it does not actually contain new trials, the BMJ meta analysis is a reanalysis of some but not all of the trials in the previous version) at the next meeting of the guideline panel on antivirals, as well as at a special emergency session of the Expert Committee
(see http://www.who.int/selection_medicines/committees/expert/emergency_session/en/index.html ) in January 2010. ]

Dear E-druggers

A series of systematic review on the efficacy and safety on neuraminidase
inhibitors in the current issue of BMJ is very excellent and timely.
http://www.bmj.com/

And yet I have several comments on these reports especially on the
harmful effects of NSAIDs and oseltamivir.

I have posted three rapid responses to this issue since just before
they appeared and will more within a few days.

The first one is before the series appeared:

1. Early use of oseltamivir: a case of respiratory depression after
each of two doses, with sudden death. Rapid response: http://www.bmj.com/cgi/e
letters/339/nov13_2/b4831#227027

The second one is (this and the followings are the responses to the
series):

2. response to the main paper (by Tom Jefferson et al)

"Oseltamivir: psychotic and neurological adverse reactions in the
randomized controlled trials"
http://www.bmj.com/cgi/eletters/339/dec07_2/b5106#227187

3. rapid response to the review paper on the observational studies
   (by Freemantle and Calvert)

What can we learn from observational studies of oseltamivir without examining
NSAIDs use?
at: http://www.bmj.com/cgi/eletters/339/dec07_2/b5248#227268

Please look at it and I hope you to make rapid responses to them.
This is now of the most important issues in treating
09AH1N1 influenza and seasonal influenza as well.
