E-drug: Expiry dates of drugs (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In my experience packaging may influence the integrity of tablets, as
it may allow for entry of air, humidity and microorganisms, which can
cause chemical and biological reactions. Furthermore, the process of
tableting (pressure, heat, dryness, and sterility of the process) may all
influence the expiry date.
So, even though a manufacturer may follow the standards of
processing, it still needs to evaluate the final product to determine the
expiry date of a product, as all of the mentioned factors can effect the
chemical composition and lead to less pharmacological benefit or
more adverse reactions.
