E-DRUG: Fluconazole donation programme (2)

Dear E-druggers,
Mozambique is (was ?) included in the list of countries allowed to received
free Fluconazole from Pfizer.
The results of this experience are not clear. In a very few words, the cost
of the administrative burden imposed by Pfizer to control the distribution
and dispensation of this product (in terms of forms and time spent by the
staff to fill the forms, supervise this activity and send retroinformation)
outweight by far the potential benefits. The importance of a good drug
management and control system is not put in question. Simply, since
Mozambique has a rather good system in place compared to similar countries,
as recognized by several external observers, it would have probably been
more eficient to just give the drugs to Mozambique (as other Donors do, such
UNICEF for instance) and rely on the - functional - control mechanisms
already in place.
