In the absence of evidence that patient cost-sharing hold some clinical
benefit for specific patient populations, imposing a price would surely delay therapy and create administrative burdens far beyond its worth. Moreover, drug firms, who now donate well over $1 billion in medications annually, would question the fairness of charging the patient for something they'd given free.
