E-drug: Generic drug production in Afghanistan (cont'd)
---------------------------------------------
Sir:
Please let me comment on the article describing the beginning of a GMP
compliant production of generics in Afghanistan.
This new model for post conflict reconstruction should not be restricted to
such countries, but could also serve as a model for the post-soviet countries
in Central and Eastern Europe. We all know about the tremendous difficulties
these countries are facing in transforming their old industries and structures!
However, for a sustainable success of the project it will be necessary to
establish in parallel an effective drug regulation organisation in
order to ensure
the safety, efficacy and quality of the drugs marketed. This includes also a
GMP Inspectorate, which preferably should be a division of the national drug
regulatory authority. The respective article in EDM #32 on "Improving Drug
Regulation" fully substantiates this comment!
